來自澳洲的四人搖滾組合the church，擁有悅耳的旋律，流暢的吉他及勁而不亂鼓聲，構成月對的魅力與親和性。

the church於80年在澳洲雪梨組成，"heyday" 是他們的第四張專輯，亦是最成熟的一張，呈現出80年代｢新吉他之聲｣運動的面貌，恰如專輯的標題"heyday"the church 表現出充沛豐盛的創作力。在內容意識上，the church 意圖勾起年輕一代的共鳴，擺脫刻板的常規、乏味單調的人生。

無可否認，the church的詞曲皆出色，以新音樂與現代詩的結合形式，描述刻劃年輕人的內心世界。雖然不為"排行榜"所接受，但卻受到樂界一致好評。

教徒合唱團 / 海星    THE CHURCH / STARFISH        滾石唱片RCHC-363

 

〝The Church〞是由身兼歌手 / 作曲家 / 貝斯手三職的〝Steve Kilbey〞 和 吉他手〝Peter Koppes〞  於1980年所組成  隨後並加入另一位及他手〝Marty Willson-Piper〞。同年11 月 該團推出第一支單曲〝She Never Said〞。81年3月，〝 The Unguarded Moment 〞    成為他們在澳洲排行榜TOP 10上的首支金曲。  而這兩首單曲同時收錄在不久後發行的處女作Of Skin And Heart〞專輯之中。

 

同樣是在1981年， 〝Richard Ploog〞取代了團中原任鼓手之職務，從此，四人組的陣容一職維持至今。而在第一張專輯之後，該團又推出了〝The Blurred Luxury〞、 〝Seance 〞 、 〝Remote Luxury 〞以及 1986年備受好評的 〝Heyday〞等數張專輯。

 

據主唱Kilbey自己說， 〝The Church〞音樂所受的影響十分廣泛，只要在過去20年間對搖滾樂奉獻出新力的任何人， 這其中包括有〝The Beatles〞 、 〝The Byrds〞、 〝 Bob Dyland〞、〝Be-Bop Deluxe〞、 前〝Dark Side Of The Moon〞時期之 〝Pink Folyd〞、 〝Big Star〞 、 〝The Stone〞以及〝T-Rex〞等，皆是 〝The Church〞  師法的對象。而該團成立以來也一直被傳播媒體認為是以吉他為主， 帶有迷幻搖滾色彩樂團的再度復活， 試圖融合60的音樂精髓合現代音樂的理念及組織。〝Starfish〞是The Church〞改投〝Arista〞旗下所推出的新專輯。製作人是〝Greg Ladanyi〞和〝Waddy Wachtel〞這張專輯顯示除該團樂風上的轉變， 更加成熟歷練。特別是在氣氛的營造何想像力的發揮兩個層面上。首支單曲〝Under The Milky Way〞尤能代表整張專輯的意念。其餘選錄的曲子尚有〝Blood  Money〞 、 〝Diestination〞 、 〝Spark〞 、 〝Antenna〞等等。誠如〝Creem〞 雜誌所言--〝The Church〞是當今少數樂團之一能喚起聽眾的共名與迴響，不論就音樂或是情感。並且能歷久彌新。這張。正是引領你我去至該樂團的核心。一個較諸以往更為寬廣無垠的天地所在。
